The FBI has named North Korean hackers—specifically the Lazarus Group—as the masterminds behind Bybit’s recent $1.5 billion heist. Because when a rogue state needs funding for its missile program, why bother with traditional banking when you can just hack a crypto exchange?
The scheme allegedly exploited a routine wallet transfer at the Dubai-based exchange, resulting in the biggest heist since, well, the last North Korean crypto hack. Bybit, now nursing a digital-sized hole in its balance sheet, has responded with a $140 million reward for any information leading to the recovery of the funds. So if you happen to spot a North Korean operative casually cashing out at an ATM, do let them know.
