DOJ Disbands Crypto Enforcement Team in Policy Reversal

The U.S. Department of Justice has officially disbanded its National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), signaling a major policy pivot under the Trump administration. The move is part of a broader push to reposition the U.S. as a crypto-friendly jurisdiction and roll back what has been criticized as “hostile overregulation.” Critics argue this could leave the sector vulnerable to further fraud and abuse, while supporters see it as necessary to attract innovation and investment. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche emphasized that future prosecutions will focus on individuals using crypto to fund terrorism or organized crime, rather than broad enforcement against the industry itself.
